Myth vs. Reality

Much misunderstanding of causes and cures surrounds popular discussions of the disease of addiction. Everyone seems to have an opinion about where it comes from, what it means, what to do about it.

James Milam, Ph.D. says in The Emergent Comprehensive Concept of Alcoholism "Alcoholism is a primary, progressively abnormal, constitutional reaction to alcohol ingestion; psychosocial symptoms are secondary, derivative, and progressive regardless of premorbid psychosocial antecedents."
